The Thing Trailer Antártica, inverno de 1982. Na remota Estação 4, do Instituto Nacional de Ciências dos Estados Unidos, estão 12 homens, que observam com espanto um norueguês tentar de todas as maneiras matar um cão, tanto que invade a estação e atira até nos americanos, mas é morto. O helicóptero, que trouxe o intruso, explode, matando os outros tripulantes e a razão daquilo fica sem explicação. Após isto o cachorro fica na base e os americanos começam a querer saber o que realmente aconteceu. O piloto de helicóptero J.R MacReady, se oferece para viajar até a base norueguesa e tentar achar alguma explicação. Chegando lá descobrem que o local foi destruído e descobrem um corpo mutilado, que parece de uma pessoa. Eles o levam para a base americana para ser estudado e só ...
