The Achilles tendon is a strong tendon that attaches on the back of the heel bone from the calf, and is very important for the body to be able to walk. Without it, walking is extremely difficult. Many high profile athletes have torn this tendon, and many more have done so from injuries, as well as from having long term Achilles tendonitis and degeneration. Steroid injections and some antibiotics can also cause these tears.
